Identify and clean the access to the screws, then unscrew

For the purposes of this tutorial, produced in partnership with the Focal Car Audio division, we have chosen to replace the original speakers of a BMW 1 Series (3-door model) with a BMW 100 L Focal IC coaxial speaker kit.

The first step is to locate and release access to all the screws that hold the door panel and then unscrew them.

In this vehicle, two screws hold the door panel from below (blue arrows).

Unscrew the screws with a screwdriver or star wrench.

With a wrench or star-tipped screwdriver, the bottom screws can be easily unscrewed.

Next, you need to clear access to the screws under the door handle cover by using one of the tools in the Focal Tool Set as leverage.

Removing the accessible screws behind the door handle cover. You can remove the screws that hold the door panel in place. Remember to remove the cover around the door opening lever.

You should also remember to remove the cover around the door opening lever, again using one of the tools in the Focal Tool Set.
